For integration and cultural diversity –
against racism and discrimination!

To accept the ethnic, cultural and religious changes as reality and to positively shape them, is one of the central tasks of the European societies and politics. The protection of our liberal-democratic basic order against fundamentalist and extremist attacks is also part of this.

The portrayal of the new reality is the task of the media. The public service broadcasting companies furthermore contribute to the promotion of understanding among and between different cultures and religious communities. Presenting the real life situation of the immigration society in all their programmes is one of their essential tasks, without denying their conflicts.

The Association of the Public Broadcasting Corporations in the Federal Republic of Germany (ARD), Second German Television (ZDF), Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR), Österreichischer Rundfunk (ORF), the Swiss Radio and television Corporation (SRG SSR idée suisse) and the Slovenian Radio and Television (RTV SLO) make their active contribution to this current and future task.

With our CIVIS Media Prize once again in 2010 we set a sustainable signal with public impact: “For integration and cultural diversity – against racism and discrimination”. The CIVIS Media Prize is intended to sensitise journalists of the electronic media for the themes of integration and cultural diversity in Europe and encourage them in their work through the honouring of exemplary programmes.

We wish you every success with your participation in the European competition of the CIVIS Media Prize 2010!
