CIVIS Media Prize 2010

Dear Sir or Madam, Dear Colleagues!

CIVIS – Europe’s Media Prize for Integration and Cultural Diversity will be awarded for the 23rd time this year. Once again it will recognize programme contributions on radio and television which are particularly suitable for the promotion of peaceful coexistence in the European immigration society.

As Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of the CIVIS Media Foundation I would like to cordially invite you to attend our TV gala and the official ceremony of the European CIVIS Media Prize in Berlin. Together with you, we would like to jointly honour this year’s CIVIS prize-winners at an official ceremony on May 6, 2010 at the "Weltsaal" of the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin. Patrons of the CIVIS Media Prize are the Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of German, Dr. Guido Westerwelle, and the President of the European Parliament, Jerzy Buzek.

I would like to sincerely thank all the entrants in the European competition for their active participation. 616 programmes from 23 countries in the European Union and Switzerland underline the European dimension of our CIVIS Media Prize for Integration and Cultural Diversity. An international jury of independent media experts has chosen a total of 21 entries from radio, television and the Internet for the final round in Berlin.

The CIVIS prize-winners will be introduced in Berlin by the TV presenters, Frank Elstner and Cherno Jobatey, together with the radio journalist Ferdos Forudastan and TV actor Miroslav Nemec. The televised prize-giving ceremony will be presented by Sandra Maischberger.

The CIVIS Media Prize 2010 will be awarded as a European and German TV Prize, as well as a European Radio Prize for German-speaking programmes in the European Union and Switzerland. With the "Young CIVIS Media Prize", there will also be a European sponsorship prize and, as of 2010, an additional award for journalisticallydeveloped webpages on the theme of integration and cultural diversity. The new "European CIVIS Online Prize" will be awarded for the first time on April, 22 in a special ceremony in the European House in Berlin. In total, the CIVIS Media Prize 2010 is endowed with 46,000 Euros.

Following the ceremony on May 6, in the Federal Foreign Office, we would like to invite you to a dinnerreception in the "Henny-Porten-Villa" (Café Einstein Stammhaus) with live music by the Miro-Nemec-Band. Transport will be provided for the transfer.

The CIVIS Media Prize is organized by the Association of Public Broadcasting Corporation in the Federal Republic of Germany (ARD), represented by Westdeutscher Rundfunk, together with the Freudenberg Foundation.

Second German Television, Austrian Broadcasting Corporation, Swiss Radio and Television Corporation, Slovenian Radio and Television, the ARD/ZDF current affairs and documentary channel PHOENIX, the German-French culture channel ARTE, Deutsche Welle, 3sat and the European Broadcasting Union are media partners.

The German Savings Bank Association, the European Parliament, the Commissioner of the German Federal Government for Migration, Refugees and Integration, the European Agency for Fundamental Rights, the WDR mediagroup, Bavaria Film and Bavaria TV Productions are cooperation partners.

The CIVIS Media Prize is organized by the CIVIS Media Foundation. In 2010, the official ceremony and prizegiving will once again be broadcast by the television programme of ARD/Das Erste.

I am looking forward to welcoming you as guests at the CIVIS Media Prize in Berlin.
