European Young CIVIS Media Prize 2010

for young European journalists, together with students and graduates of film and media colleges, based in Europe.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Colleagues,

Please send us your best TV or video programme focusing on the theme of integration and multicultural coexistence. Provided that you are attending a film and television college, undergoing training as a journalist or that you have only recently embarked upon your career as a journalist. We are seeking outstanding and innovative programme contributions which evocatively portray the cultural diversity of Europe. 2010 again reportages, reports, documentaries or dramas for film and television will be awarded which promote the peaceful coexistence between different cultures and religious communities.

The European Young CIVIS Media Prize aims to provide a public platform for your work, and, at the same time, serve as a valuable source of fresh ideas and inspiration. Endowed with a fund of 5,000 Euro, the prize will be presented at the beginning of May 2010, during a TV gala in Berlin. The CIVIS prize-giving ceremony will be broadcast on ARD/Das Erste.

Migration, integration and cultural diversity are leaving an increasingly strong impression on our everyday life. In this connection, film and television have a responsible task to fulfil: they not only show the immigration society – they also help to form it. Promoting understanding between people from different origins, can only succeed if the media informs in a realistic and enlightening way. Problems must be addressed openly. The fight against racism and discrimination is a pan- European task.

As part of the European CIVIS Media Prize, the sponsorship prize European Young CIVIS Media Prize is awarded by the ARD, represented by Westdeutscher Rundfunk, in conjunction with the Freudenberg Foundation.

Second German Television (ZDF), the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF), the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SRG SSR idée suisse), the Slovenian Radio and Television (RTV SLO), the ARD/ZDF current affairs and documentary channel PHOENIX, the Franco-German culture channel ARTE, the Deutsche Welle (DW), the European satellite broadcaster 3sat and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) are media partners.

The German Savings Banks Association (DSGV), the European Parliament, the German Federal Government Commissioner for Migration, Refugees and Integration, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), the WDR mediagroup and BAVARIA Film and Television are co-operation partners.

The CIVIS Media Foundation in Cologne has been en - trusted with the organisation and staging of the European Young CIVIS Media Prize. Coordinators of the European competition are Sandra Domagalla and Dr. Christina Killius.

I wish you every success with your entry to the European Young CIVIS Media Prize 2010!
