Armin Walpen

Armin Walpen, born in 1948 in Reckingen, Switzerland/Wallis. Director-General of the Swiss Radio and Television Corporation (SRG SSR idée suisse). Studied Jurisprudence at the University of Fribourg, graduating with an MA. From 1974 worked for the Radio and Television Service in the General Secretariat of the Swiss Transport and Energy Department (EVED, today UVEK), 1980 – 1988 Head of EVED. Since 1988 academic consultant to EVED. Until 1988 Lecturer in Broadcasting Law at the University of Fribourg/Switzerland. 1988 – 1991 Head of the Audiovisual Media Division and Deputy Director at the Swiss national daily, the Tages-Anzeiger. 1991 – 1996 General Secretary of the Swiss Federal Department for Justice and Police. Since 1996 Director-General of SRG SSR idée suisse. Member of various supervisory boards and other appointments. Winner of the 2000 Oertli-Prize. Various publications on the topic of the "mass media".
