SRG SSR idée suisse -
Public service for radio and television

SRG SSR idée suisse is the largest provider of electronic media in Switzerland. Its offering is national, multimedial and multilingual, encompassing seven television channels and 16 radio stations in the four national languages, complemented by websites in a total of ten languages and teletext in German, French and Italian. Not only is the choice of media and languages broad, but the SRG SSR's schedules also contain something for everyone. They extend from news, narrative and background reports on politics, the arts, society and sport, through to entertainment, with feature films, sitcoms, radio plays, shows, talk and music. SRG SSR services are broadcast nationally but programming is made primarily for audiences in the country's separate language regions: German-speaking Deutschschweiz, French-speaking Suisse romande, Italian-speaking Svizzera italiana and Romansch-speaking Svizra rumantscha. The services offered by Swissinfo/Swiss Radio International are targeted at both domestic and international audiences. With its programming, SRG SSR is providing services on behalf of the general public: Hence the term "public service broadcaster". It is a non-profit organisation which is financed from a variety of sources, primarily the licence fee. Commercial revenues also help to swell the Corporation's coffers. Commercial gains are channelled back into the public service.
