Taking a long-term stance with our CIVIS Media Prize
The CIVIS Media Prize aims to sensitise journalists in electronic media for the topics of integration and cultural diversity, and encourage them in their work by honouring exemplary programmes.
The public broadcasters contribute to promoting understanding between and among different cultures and faith communities. One of their key tasks is to present the everyday realities of the migrant society in all of their programmes, without denying the conflicts.
With our CIVIS Media Prize we are taking a long-term, effective and visible stance in the European public sphere: For integration and cultural diversity – against racism and discrimination.
Accepting ethnic, cultural and religious transformation as the reality, and shaping this transformation positively, is one of the key tasks of European societies and politics. The protection of our free and democratic order against fundamentalist and extremist attacks is also a part of that.
The Arbeitsgemeinschaft der öffentlich-rechtlichen Rundfunkanstalten der Bundesrepublik Deutschland (ARD), the Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR), the Österreichischer Rundfunk (ORF), the Schweizerische Radio- und Fernsehgesellschaft (SRG SSR), Deutsche Welle (DW), RTV Slovenia and Deutschlandradio make an active contribution to this task for the present and the future.
