It takes month, often years, until a refugee can get his first job: if everything runs smoothly and the asylum procedures are efficient and if there is a place in a suitable language course. In summer 2015, it was stated that in times of skills shortage, refugees are utmost welcome on the German labour market. But it is not that easy. This is not only due to the necessary German skills, bureaucracy or recognition of foreign degrees. For a suitable apprenticeship or regular work place, personal contacts are required, particularly in rural areas.
