CIVIS Prize-giving ceremony 2013
Dear Sir or Madam, Dear Colleagues!
In 2013 the CIVIS Media Prize for Integration and Cultural Diversity in Europe will be honouring programme contributions on radio, television and the Internet, which promote peaceful coexistence between people of the most varied national, ethnic, religious or cultural origins.
As Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of the CIVIS Media Foundation I cordially invite you to attend the festive TV gala and prizegiving ceremony of the CIVIS Media Prize 2013. Together with you, we would like to pay tribute to the prize-winners on May 16, 2013, at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin. The German Federal President Joachim Gauck, Federal Foreign Minister, Dr. Guido Westerwelle and the President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, are patrons of the European CIVIS Media Prize 2013.
I would like to express my sincere thanks to all the entrants in the European competition for their active participation. 639 programmes from 22 EU states and Switzerland clearly demonstrate the European dimension of our CIVIS Media Prize. An international jury of independent media experts has selected a total of 23 contributions from radio, television and the Internet for the final round.
The CIVIS Media Prize 2013 will be awarded as European and German TV Prizes, as well as a European Radio Prize for German-language programmes in the EU and Switzerland. With the "Young CIVIS Media Prize" there is also a European sponsorship prize. The “CIVIS Online Media Prize” offers an additional European award for journalistic web pages on the theme of integration and cultural diversity.
A new addition to the European television category is a "magazine prize" – for short television programmes up to 10 minutes. Topical short reports, in particular, are able to address audiences of millions.
Following the prize-giving ceremony at the Federal Foreign Office we would like to invite you to a dinner reception at the "Eventlocation KUNZTSCHULE at Checkpoint Charlie" – with live music by the Miro- Nemec Band. Transfer is provided.
The CIVIS Media Prize is organized by the Association of Public Broadcasting Corporations of the Federal Republic of Germany (ARD), represented by Westdeutscher Rundfunk, together with the Freudenberg Foundation.
Österreichischer Rundfunk, the Swiss SRG SSR, the Deutsche Welle, Slovenian Radio and Television, Deutschlandradio, the German-French culture channel ARTE, 3sat, PHOENIX and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) are media partners.

The Media Prize is organized by the CIVIS Media Foundation for Integration and Cultural Diversity. The presentation of prizes in 2013 will once again be broadcast on the television programme of the ARD/ Das Erste as well as on several European TV broadcasting channels and via Livestreams at the online presentation of WDR and the CIVIS Media Foundation. Presenter of the TV prize-giving ceremony will be Sandra Maischberger.

With kind regards
Director-General of Westdeutscher Rundfunk
