Greeting

Greetings from the State Minister Reem Alabali-Radovan >

By Minister of State Reem Alabali-Radovan, Federal Government Commissioner for Migration, Refugees and Integration and Federal Government Commissioner for Anti-Racism

The war of aggression against Ukraine in violation of international law is a breach of civilizes standards, demonstrating that peaceful coexistence cannot be taken for granted. Not even in Europe. The flight and expulsion of millions of people demand our solidarity and help. The Russian war is not only an attack on Ukraine, but also on the values and the idea of a common Europe. In these difficult times, it is encouraging that our Europe is more united than ever: together we support the people from and in Ukraine. Together we stand for democracy, human rights and peace.

Awarding a European media prize, CIVIS has contributed strongly to the growing together of Europe for 35 years. CIVIS stands up for the idea of a peaceful, diverse Europe in which racism, anti-Semitism or chauvinism have no place. CIVIS strengthens journalism that combines quality and solid craftsmanship with attitude and responsibility, that sorts out and helps to understand, that brings together instead of dividing. This is indispensable, especially in these times.

The CIVIS Media Prize encourages contributions that deal with the diversity of society – on radio, television, film or online. More than 800 submissions from 20 EU Member States and Switzerland are an incentive to stand up for humanity and solidarity and to confront hate and agitation. I am happy to support this from the bottom of my heart! I wish the nominees for the 2022 award ceremony every success and thank all organisers of the CIVIS Media Prize!
