General notice and obligatory information

Controller of data processing on this website

The controller, as defined by the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and other national data protection laws of EU member states, as well as other data protection provisions, is the:

CIVIS Media Foundation
for Integration and Cultural Diversity
in Europe

Minoritenstraße 7
50667 Cologne, Germany

datenschutz@civismedia.eu
www.civismedia.eu

Represented by the executive director, Ferdos Forudastan.

Personal data

Of course, you can use the CIVIS website without disclosing personal data. Personal data is information that can be used to process, for example, your name, address, telephone number or contact information.

Data processing

The controller decides alone or together with others about the purpose and means of processing personal data (e.g. names, contact details and similar). Only as few personal data as possible will be collected. The data shall not be forwarded to any unauthorised third party. The data shall not be leased or sold. The CIVIS Media Foundation – referred to hereafter as CIVIS – is not commercially active.

Personal data are processed regularly only with the consent of the user and only where necessary for the provision of a functioning website, as well as of CIVIS content and services. Once the purpose of their collection has been fulfilled, the data will be deleted by CIVIS.

CIVIS stores personal data for example from enquiries using the contact form in the area of the European competition for the annual CIVIS Media Prize, in order to send newsletters, for competitions connected with the CIVIS Cinema Prize, or for the registration of communities.

If personal data are to be processed in these contexts, CIVIS has concluded a contract with its service providers for this contract data processing. In this contract, the service provider undertakes to use the personal data solely for the contracted purpose.

Newsletters and the sending of messages

With the consent of the recipient, CIVIS sends regular information about the activities of the foundation by means of electronic messages (e-mails) and references to further information – hereafter referred to as newsletters. Registration for the newsletter is recorded in order to be able to prove the registration process in accordance with legal requirements. The time of registration, the time of confirmation, and the IP address are stored. The e-mail address of the users is stored for as long as the newsletter subscription is active. Receipt of the newsletter can be cancelled at any time by means of an opt-out. The legal basis for processing data after registration for the newsletter by the user is Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR.

Withdrawal of your consent to data processing

Some data processing operations are possible only with your explicit consent. It is possible to withdraw your previously granted consent at any time. In order to withdraw your consent, it suffices to send an informal message by e-mail to info@civismedia.eu. The legality of the data processing carried out until the withdrawal of consent remains unaffected.

Right of complaint

As a data subject (w/f), in the event of a breach of privacy you have the right to complain to the competent supervisory authority. The broadcasting data protection comissioner, Dr. Reinhart Binder, can be found at www.rundfunkdatenschutz.de.

Right to data transferability

You have the right to demand the handover to you or a third party all data processed automatically by CIVIS on the basis of your consent or in fulfilment of a contract. The data must be provided in a machine-readable format. If you demand the direct transfer of data to a different controller, this shall be done only where technically feasible.

Right to information, correction, blocking and deletion

You have the right at all times, in the context of valid legal provisions, to receive information free of charge about your stored personal data, the origin of the data, their recipient and the purpose of the data processing and, where applicable, a right to the correction, blocking or deletion of these data. In this regard, and also for other questions relating to the subject of personal data, you can contact us at any time via the contact possibilities listed in our imprint.

SSL and TLS encryption

For security reasons and to protect the transfer of confidential content you send to CIVIS as the site operator, our website uses SSL or TLS encryption. This means that data that you transmit via this website cannot be read by any third party. You can recognise an encrypted connection by the “https://” address bar in your browser and by the lock symbol in the browser bar.

In the so-called log files, the provider of the CIVIS website collects and stores information that your browser automatically transmits to us without allowing CIVIS any precise conclusions about the respective visitor. They include:

  • IP addresses (completely deleted after 30 days).

These log files are specially protected against third-party access and are not rented or sold to third parties under any circumstances. CIVIS will only disclose your data to third parties if:

Vimeo

For the integration and presentation of video content, the CIVIS website uses Vimeo plugins. The provider of the video portal is Vimeo LCC, 555 West 18th Street, New York, New York 10011, USA. When accessing a page with an integrated Vimeo plugin, a connection is established with the Vimeo servers. By these means, Vimeo learns which of our pages you have accessed. Vimeo learns your IP address, even if you are not logged into the video portal, or do not have an account there. The information gathered by Vimeo is transmitted to servers of the video portal in the USA. Vimeo can connect your surfing behaviour directly with your personal profile if you are logged into your Vimeo account. You can prevent this by logging out beforehand. The use of Vimeo is in the interest of an appropriate presentation of our online content. This represents a justified interest as defined by Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. Details on the treatment of user data can be found in the privacy policy of Vimeo at: https://vimeo.com/privacy.

Links to other offers

The CIVIS website contains links to other online offers. By means of the links, CIVIS provides access to the use of this content. CIVIS is however not responsible for the content of the online offers available through the links, or for their data protection provisions. CIVIS does not accept any liability for the links provided by CIVIS to other sites.

Data protection in social media such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube

CIVIS is active and present in social networks and on platforms in order to communicate with interested parties and users and to inform them about further offers. CIVIS provides information about data processing to the extent it is known to CIVIS and subject to influencing. As the operator of so-called “fan pages” on the social networks, CIVIS may receive statistical information in anonymous form but cannot draw any conclusions about user behavior.

CIVIS expressly points out that social networks are mostly US companies and therefore your data may also be processed outside the EU. The data protection declarations of the individual providers regulate more details:
